LEICESTER, MA — img_1853The previous year’s Pet Rock Fest was a drizzly day. And in 2016, Pet Rock Fest was met with a dark cloud that for ten treacherous minutes spit pummeling rain and whipping winds through the field. For some, that might put a “damper” on the day. Animal lovers are resilient, and held onto their tents and tables and goods, most vendors and nonprofits sticking it out for what turned out to be a sunny day that drew thousands of people and their best friends.

Pet Rock Fest took place at Becker College on its Leicester Campus on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016 from noon to 5 p.m.

Held on the campus property close to Leicester Common, the venue welcomed back all of our attractions, including K9 demos, Pups in the Air Frisbee Dog Team, live music, the Adoptable Pet Parade, Amateur Dog Contest, vegetarian vendors and our wonderful sponsors and animal welfare organizations. Twelve cats and their parents won the cat photo contest, winning a spot on our 2016 calendar, and prizes from the Pet Barn. Also, 15 took home prizes donated from Especially for Pets, John Paul Pet, Best Friends Grooming and Nutra-9, as well as trophies and medals.

The music stage had one of the best lineups ever, with Vance Gilbert opening the show, followed by the legendary  She’s Busy, then the Houston Bernard Band and Cara Brindisi took us home with her lilting vocals carrying over the Becker fields.

It also featured performances and games for kids, a Book Nook sponsored by Annie’s Book Stop, clinics and presentations by Becker College, doggie massages, photos of your pets, animal mascots, vegetarian food court (this year adding Chickpea!), games for kids, contests for dogs, a cat photo contest, photos with your pets, doggie massages, a doggie water park, demonstrations, exhibits, vendors and, most importantly, hundreds of nonprofit groups devoted to animal welfare causes. All animals.

Foster Parrots and Paw Affections Rescue won our Pet Rock Fest lottery, each receiving $500 from Pet Rock for their organizations. New England All Breed Rescue and Hudson the Railroad Puppy tied to win the adoptable pet parade, each receiving $250 from Pet Rock Fest.
Pet Rock Fest gives its proceeds to worthy animal related charities that support a variety of causes, from shelters to law reform to farm animal sanctuaries, and our recipients for 2016 included: KIND News, CMDART, Private Citizens for Pets in Peril, Maple Farm Sanctuary, Spay Worcester, Foster Parrots.
